Fellowships
A full college education cannot exist within the walls of a classroom alone. That’s why we encourage and support students who decide to pursue nationally competitive fellowships.
Awards represent hundreds of thousands of dollars that allow students to pursue goals such as researching small-scale fishing in the South Pacific, investigating intervention services for people with disabilities in India, completing a master’s degree in scriptwriting in the U.K., teaching English in Austria and co-creating an anthology of stories in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
The Office of Fellowships is dedicated to helping students identify and apply for opportunities they feel will most benefit them both during and after their time at W&L. For the fourth consecutive year, W&L is on the list of U.S. colleges and universities that produced the most 2021-2022 Fulbright U.S. Students.

Fulbright to Study in Hungary
Troy Larsen '22
Troy, a math and classics major, will spend a year studying at the Budapest Semesters in Mathematics and participating in research at the Alfr茅d R茅nyi Institute of Mathematics.鈥淥ver the last four years, I have dedicated myself to creating spaces in which students, especially those from marginalized backgrounds, grow and find success. I hope to help foster such an environment by providing instruction in mathematics and advice on collegiate success to the historically underserved Roma communities in Budapest.鈥
Beinecke Scholarship for Graduate Study
Tanajia Moye-Green '23
Tanajia, a sociology major and poverty studies and data science minor, has won a Beinecke Scholarship to help fund her graduate studies. Tanjian is interested in criminal justice reform and portraying the ways in which mass incarceration has harmed Black communities. She has focused a portion of her studies on understanding the effects of poverty on economic mobility and the consequences of adverse childhood experiences.
Gilman Scholarship to intern in Spain
Gavron Campbell '22
Gavron, a business administration major and digital culture and information minor, will be interning in Barcelona Spain after being awarded a Gilman Scholarship. "I truly cannot thank the university enough for the endless opportunities they have made available to me. Interning abroad is a daunting experience, but because of this award, I feel like I have all the support I need to succeed.鈥
Boren Scholarship
Ana Estrada Hamm 鈥22
"The Boren opens doors for me not only to study abroad with the support of the U.S. government, but also to a future career in international development with the U.S. government, which has been a longtime dream of mine. Now it feels like more of a reality. This would not have been possible without the incredible support of my professors and the university.鈥
Stories
Through hard work, supportive faculty and staff and an expanded Office of Fellowships, a record number of 六合厅开奖现场 students received nationally competitive fellowship awards in 2023-24.
Deyerle will teach English to French public school students before pursuing a career in special education.
The scholarship will support Wright鈥檚 future studies in urban sociology.
Roberts will pursue her doctorate at Southern Methodist University through the selective leadership program.
Loth will teach English in Austria for nine months before applying for the Peace Corps.
Zia plans to continue his work with the PINK Center Project in his home country of Pakistan.
Kinney will teach English in Austria at an agricultural research institute, blending his interests in German and environmental studies.
The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards of up to $5,000 to U.S. undergraduate students who are Pell Grant recipients.
The David L. Boren Scholarship supports the intensive study of languages deemed important to U.S. interests.
Yurechko鈥檚 award will support her post-graduate studies as the university鈥檚 first Marshall Scholar.
Mayer will teach English in Austria before pursuing a master鈥檚 degree in international relations.
Adotey will start her role in the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program in early August 2024.
